In the late 1990's, a strong spring thunderstorm caused significant damage in the author's hometown in rural Wisconsin. The author's neighbors were fascinated and concerned about the damage and the storm that caused it, and inquired about where they could find more information. At the time, natural hazards information was scattered widely around the Internet, and no comprehensive websites existed. Without any external funding, NaturalHazards.org came to life from a basement apartment in the summer of 1998. Each year since, these pages have expanded in an ongoing effort to mold a website into a digital educational environment. The goal of NaturalHazards.org is to foster informed citizenship by providing a basic description of the threats associated with natural hazards. This site also serves as a text-based sister site to perilous planet. Please be sure to read this disclaimer.
